"If I submit to God, I’ll just become a puppet!"
A brilliant young man questioned Dr. Henrietta Mears about surrendering his life to God. He was convinced that becoming a Christian would mean the destruction of his personality, that he’d be altered in some strange way, and that he’d lose control of his own mind. He feared becoming a mere puppet in God’s hands.
So Miss Mears asked him to watch as she turned on a lamp. One moment it was dark, then she turned on the switch. She explained, "The lamp surrendered itself to the electric current and light has filled the room. The lamp didn’t destroy its personality when it surrendered to the current. On the contrary—the very thing happened for which the lamp was created: it gave light."

Great post, Justin! This is sort of like the reason my husband won't get saved - he knows he will change and he likes himself just the way he is, thank you very much. He's ADHD and they don't like change. Still praying for him every day, though.
ReplyDeleteI have come to see this slightly differently. My personality is buried by the sin that exists inside of me. All that I was created to be, all the little nuances that make me unique are often times covered up by the negative blanket that covers this earth - fear, anger, a false sense of identity, selfish pride...
ReplyDeleteWhen all this is finally and completely removed, we are all going to shine like never before, each of our personalities finally being freed to romp uproariously throughout eternity.
God created diversity. All you have to do is look around at nature and see the incredible variety He loves. We are no different. He loves variety and that is what we will remain. Different, and then completely free to shine that difference.
I'm sick and tired of the same old thing here. Sin makes us all the same. The future will be very exciting, for sure!
