Rick Warren Responds to His Critics

By Justin Edwards

As online discernment ministries continue to blow the horn on Rick Warren's Scripture twisting and Pelagian-rooted satellite speech at DG2010 Sunday, Warren has decided to humbly respond to the criticisms. But instead of addressing concerns that can be found in any of the following articles:

Pelagian Rick Warren Teaches Pelagianism at John Piper's Desiring God,

Rick Warren - Pelagianism - and the Desiring God Conference,

Warren Teaches Pelagianism at Piper's Conference,

Enough! Scripture Twisting Is Not 'Doctrinal and Sound',

John Piper on Rick Warren,

Rick Warren: Piper Approved,

Desiring God 2010 (continued),

and of course, we must include the excellent review of Chris Rosebrough of Pirate Christian Radio (which is a must-listen): Rick Warren's Lecture at Desiring God, Warren tweeted:

From Ingrid Schlueter

How cute. Warren is referring to Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries and Ingrid Schlueter of Crosstalk America, both of the Christian Research Network and have been following and exposing Rick Warren for years. Why is it that Warren refuses to address Chris Rosebrough's review?

Warren is puffed up and full of pride. If these defenders of the faith were slandering Rick Warren as John Piper has suggested, then why not set the record straight? I can only conclude that Warren has no leg to stand on and his only rebuttal is silly, whimsical tweets.

I can't say I'm surprised.

  1. I just finished Chris' critique of Warrens speech at the DG conference. After hearing what was said I am genuinely surprised that Piper did not cut the feed to the taped message. Or at least apologize for its content or at the very least correct it. Where is Piper, Molher, R. C. Sproul, Thabiti Anyabwile, Francis Chan on this? I wonder if only men like Chris Rosebrough, Ken Silva, Mike Ratliff and our dear sister Ingrid Schlueter will speak out against this mess.

  2. Mike, we are all suprised at the deafening silence from Evangelicalism's leadership.

Francis Chan would never say anything against this, his message is mostly emotional fluff and law too. Why would he criticize another guy who has a similar message? Francis spent all his time there groveling and telling us how he feels so unworthy to sit in these men's presence. It was pathetic.

    Great job Justin.

  3. That's a great point, Mike. Not only that, but Piper said he was biblical even after the lecture. Perhaps he wasn't paying attention? I'd love for him to listen to Chris' review - maybe then he'd smell the coffee. If he remains silent on the issue, that will be "unbelievable."

Thanks, terriergal. Chan rubs elbows with all kinds of emergents, so I don't see how sharing the stage with Warren would be any different.

  4. Thanks Justin. I appreciate the discernment ministries. They are constantly taking the heat from those who are leading the flock astray!
The waters are muddy, and we need solid biblical leaders who can help us navigate through the mire.
