The Lord's Prayer Series (VLOG)

By Justin Edwards

Matt Slyman begins his series on the Lord's Prayer with this brief introduction. The Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6 has been turned into a traditional and mundane routine by many who say it on a regular basis. Oftentimes, it's the only prayer some even say. This is religiosity, my friends. The Lord wants prayer to come from the heart, not through a mindless recitation. It's how we communicate with Him. 1 Thessalonians 5 tells us,

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Prayer is mere communion with God. We realize the peace that passes all understanding through prayer, as Philippians 4 says,

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The Lord's Prayer is to be understood as an example to us on how to pray. What God wants is speaking to Him from the sincerity of our hearts. We give Him thanks, we confess and repent from our sins, we praise His Holy name, and we make our requests known to Him. There is nothing wrong with memorizing and reciting this prayer, not at all, but make sure you are crying out to Him from the bottom of your heart.

I'm looking forward to what God has laid on my brother's heart:
